Five Ways to Avoid Wedding Season Burnout

While the 2020 wedding season was all but halted by a global pandemic, weddings aren’t going away. Thank goodness!

Which means the chance of wedding season burnout isn’t going away either.

In my 18 seasons as a wedding photographer, I've developed some systems for keeping myself refreshed and connected to my work during the busy wedding season.

Whether you're just getting started as a photographer or have been doing it for many years, use this time to rethink your strategy and implement new habits to help avoid burnout in your photography career.

  1. Schedule Days off in Advance

Important days usually happen over the weekends: picnics, family vacations, anniversaries, staycations.

Setting aside space on your calendar for the moments that are important to you will leave you regret-free when the event arrives.

  2. Take One Day a Week to Completely Unplug

This means no email, no social media! Give yourself the time and space needed to spend time with family and engage in other activities you love.

  3. Challenge Yourself to Shoot in A New Way

What’s something you’ve always wanted to try, but never made time for? Well, this is the opportunity!

Going outside your comfort zone is both fun and will drastically improve your photography.

  4. Switch Roles with Your Second

Depending on what your client is looking for, there might be the opportunity to switch things up with your second.

This will give you a unique and fresh perspective on the wedding.

  5. Network with Your Community

Entrepreneurship can be lonely, getting out into the community will not only help you get away from the computer, but will give you fresh, new perspectives on your own business.
